Paul Di'Anno: Voice of Iron Maiden’s First Two Albums, Dies at 66 After Shaping Metal and Performing 100+ Shows in a Wheelchair

On October 21, 2024, Paul Di’anno (Paul Andrews), an English singer, passed away at the age of 66.

He was born in East London, in 1958 and his professional life started with him joining the band “Iron Maiden” in 1978, replacing their old lead singer, according to him, he brought the band “madness” and “over the top aspect”.

He was the lead vocalist for two bands: “Iron Maiden” and “Killers”, the second being the band he formed upon leaving “Iron Maiden”

He was fired from “Iron Maiden” in 1981, which according to him was a good riddance. He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson.

Di’Anno’s impact in the metal genre of music is indeed “pivotal”, and has been acknowledged by other famous metal groups like Metallica, that his music is what brought them to the music industry.

He had an elaborate career after “Iron Maiden” which included formation of the band “Killers”, performing with “Battlezone”, “Praying Mantis”, releasing “The Book of the Beast” his first ever career retrospective album and many more.

He did not die with a clean slate when it came to his legal history. He has been jailed multiple times on various grounds like fraud, drug abuse, assault and so on.

His health has suffered greatly throughout his life, his first major setback being the knee surgery upon an accident in 2014, followed by many more like abscess in lungs, another knee surgery and so on.

Despite having major health issues he continued to bless his fans with his performances, doing over 100 shows in 2023 in a wheelchair. He is being remembered fondly by his fans, friends, family, “Iron Maiden” and many more of his well wishers.
