American President Joe Biden announced the release of 16 prisoners from Russia on 01-08-2024.
According to the White House, all of them were detained unjustly.

The group includes four citizens of America, including a Green Card holder.
Along with this, five German citizens and seven Russians were also freed.
According to the President, he talked with the detainees and connected them with their families from the Oval Office.
He also expressed immense gratitude to the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for his significant contributions in the exchange.
The President also emphasized the importance of maintaining close relationships with their fellow allies.
The U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken also celebrated the event by releasing a parallel statement, highlighting the diplomatic importance of the initiative.
Former U.S President and Biden’s rival in the presidential election Donald Trump on the other hand, demanded a more transparent release of associated information through a post on Truth Social.
