The Indian Hockey team has been exceptional in the Paris Olympics 2024.
After beating Ireland in the last match, the Indian team has achieved a major feat in the history of Indian Hockey by defeating Australia 3-2, their first Olympic win against them in nearly 52 years.
Abhishek scored the opening goal for India, while skipper Harmanpreet Singh continued his good form, scoring twice to give India a realistic chance.
This is also India’s first win against Australia since the introduction of Astro Turf in the Olympics.
Astro Turf has played a pivotal role in improving the game of hockey as a whole.
The Astro Turf is a soft synthetic surface that has evolved the game.
Australia, as always, showed a terrific fightback but failed to deliver in the final stage, with India holding their nerve.
Tom Craig scored the opening goal for the Aussies in the 25th minute, and Blake Govers scored the second in the 55th minute.
Notably, veteran Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, playing his last tournament, was exceptional as he kept the Aussies at bay with some excellent saves, creating history for India.
