After Losing an Olympic Final by 100 Grams, Vinesh Phogat Gains a Gold of a Different Kind

Vinesh Phogat, the Olympian and Indian star wrestler, has been receiving widespread support from across the country after she was disqualified from the 50 kg final wrestling match at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympics due to being 100 grams overweight.

She was honored with a symbolic gold medal by the Sarvkhap Panchayat in her home village of Balali, Haryana, as a gesture of support and recognition.

After receiving such overwhelming support, Vinesh expressed her happiness and noted that this beautiful gesture would motivate other women sportspersons to take up the sport, encouraging them to believe that they will receive support even during challenging times.

She also emphasized that their fight is not over, referring to the ongoing struggle for justice regarding the allegations of sexual harassment against the former Wrestling Federation of India chief, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.

The star wrestler remarked that the overwhelming welcome she received was more valuable to her than winning 1000 Olympic medals, underscoring the emotional significance of the support she experienced.
