In an unexpected move, the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, George Gascón, has voiced support for the resentencing of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 for the well-known shotgun murder of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez in Beverly Hills in 1989.

This development presents itself almost 3 decades after the young men were sentenced to imprisonment for life with no chance of parole.

According to Gascón’s suggested course of action, there are additional reasons for this which include new evidence, a letter that Erik Menendez wrote to a cousin before the murders that appeared to reference the abuse he faced, and so on.

Further, former Menudo member Roy Rosselló has alleged that Jose Menendez had sexually abused him in the 1980s when Menudo was under RCA Records, which was run by Jose Menendez at that time.

The case of the Menendez brothers has always captured the imagination of the public, most likely due to their highly publicized trials, which were one of the first ones to be broadcast live.

A judge will make the final ruling in the brothers’ case in the next 30 days.

This has generated a significant amount of public and family support, with about 30 relatives now appealing for mercy.

Nevertheless, some family members are against the idea of resentencing.

They say this because Gascón is facing a tough reelection bid against Nathan Hochman, a former federal prosecutor, and he has decided to take advantage of the high profile case for politics.
