The Commanders agreed to trade Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round selections.
This development was officially confirmed by the Eagles on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Dotson was the No. 16 overall pick out of Penn State in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Despite being a high draft pick, Dotson struggled to secure the No. 2 receiver spot with the Commanders, especially after the new regime led by Coach Dan Quinn and General Manager Adam Peters took over.
In Washington, Terry McLaurin solidified his position as the team's top receiver, which further limited Dotson's opportunities.
As for his role with the Eagles, Dotson is expected to play as the No. 3 receiver, joining a talented receiving corps that includes DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown.
On the other hand, the Commanders now face the challenge of filling the void left by Dotson's departure.
The Commanders will likely rely heavily on third-round player Luke McCaffrey and Dyami Brown to complement McLaurin and ease the pressure on him in the upcoming season.
