Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has created a special milestone as he becomes the first player in baseball history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season. The swashbuckling baseballer needed one stolen base and two home runs to achieve this feat and once he achieved it took his home runs tally to 51 and also took 51 steals during a comprehensive victory by 20-4 against the Miami Marlins. The star player stole third base in the first inning to secure this first part of the record. He then added another important steal to move his tally from 50 to 51. After that, he hit the 49th home run of the season in the sixth inning. After he hit the 49th home run, he was tied with the Dodgers record for most number of home runs in a season which was created in 2001 by Shawn Green.

After this historic achievement, The MLB commissioner praised Shohei Ohtani and he congratulated Ohtani on behalf of Major League Baseball. “While Shohei Ohtani has been a groundbreaking player for many years, his latest feat as the first 50-50 player in the history of Major League Baseball reflects not just his amazing power-and-speed talent, but his character, his drive, and his commitment to all-around excellence. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I congratulate Shohei on this remarkable achievement. We are proud that he continues to take our game to new heights.”

Till now Ohtani has played 866 MLB matches. Later after the game, Ohtani gave an interview to MLB network with the host Greg Amsinger. He was joined by Hall of famer Pedro Martinez and former All Star Harold Reynolds. Here the panel asked him how he will compare the 50-50 achievement with winning the World Baseball Classic in 2022. “The 50-50 mark was kind of like a clean slate in terms of chasing for a record. The most important thing for us right now is that we are leading the division. Just winning the division is probably the most important thing now for me and the team,” said Ohtani.
