X has imposed a ban on Barry Stanton’s account following racist posts against Indians. Stanton used a verified account with 180,000 followers to spread hate, featuring several derogatory remarks and racist cartoons targeting Indians. These posts depicted Indians engaging in open defecation and discussed ways to keep Indians away from Western countries.

The posts went viral, leading to widespread protests in India. Some Indians had previously reported his racist content and received emails from X stating that the user’s content violated the company’s social policies. After these posts were shared, the account was reported thousands of times. There was also continuous pressure on X’s owner, Elon Musk, resulting in the account’s suspension on Friday.

Barry Stanton’s X bio claims that he is a British citizen and a father of five children. However, the account’s activities suggest otherwise. It appears that “Barry Stanton” is a fake name being used by an unknown troll. The photos used on the account reportedly belong to someone else.

Indian user Akshit Singh posted on X, saying, “An email has been sent to  @AshwiniVaishnaw , @MIB_India  to withhold the account of Barry Stanton In India and one copy also has been sent to the UK high commission in India.” Singh mentioned in his complaint, “This account is promoting hate speech and offensive comments targeting individuals based on race and nationality.”

Another user demanded an investigation into Stanton’s account, alleging Musk has opened the gates of hell. It has been proven that the current Twitter algorithm is promoting racist tweets against Indians. After Stanton’s account was suspended, the hashtag ‘Suspended’ started trending on X.

This incident has once again raised concerns about social media platforms and their role in combating hate speech and misinformation.
