Young sensation of Los Angeles Angels Ben Joyce has set a unique record. He threw a 105.5 mph fastball on Tuesday night which left the world of Baseball stunned. This is the fastest strikeout this season and it is the third fastest strikeout pitch in the pitching era since the year 2008. Joyce’s smashing struck out Tommy Edman but couldn’t end the winning streak of the Los Angeles Dodgers half of the ninth inning. Joyce was really motivated to make a difference against their Dodgers. After him, only Aroldis Chapman has struck harder pitches which reached 105.8 mph in 2010 and 105.7 mph in 2016. But Joyce’s throw was the fastest pitch thrown at a strikeout which is a clear difference from one and all.

Joyce is a rookie player but his performance have always stood apart from everyone else. In this match too, it was a great display of velocity by Joyce. And now after the trade of Carlos Estevez, Joyce has become a reliable player for the Los Angeles Angels. Before this performance, his previous best fastball was 104.8 mph. After this terrific performance an elated Joyce said “I looked up right after and saw it. It was just a big-time game and all the fans were into it. So I feel like that helped a little bit. It was two strikes, so I kind of just tried to give everything I had.”

Congratulations messages poured in for the star reliever and the Angels manager Ron Washington talked about his performance too. “He needed every part of it to get through those guys. That’s a juggernaut over there. But Ben has been doing that ever since he got here. So it’s nice to see that he was able to come in and shut that down in the ninth and give us a chance to get out there and win it. But it just didn’t happen”.

His teammate and catcher Logan O’Hoppe talked about the hard work Joyce has put in. “I think 105, any harder than that, good luck to anyone in that ball’s direction. It’s pretty cool but is also a testament of the work he puts in and the kind of human he is, too.”
