India Women’s Team Dominates South Africa in Chennai T20: Pooja Vastrakar’s Stunning 4/13 Performance

Cricket Highlights, India vs South Africa, Pooja Vastrakar, T20 International, Women's Cricket

India’s women’s cricket team has showcased remarkable performance in recent years. The women in blue leveled the series by comprehensively beating South Africa in the third T20I. In the one-off Test match against South Africa in Chennai, India dominated and won by 10 wickets. They also whitewashed South Africa in the ODI series and tied the series 1-1, played at the M. A. Chidambaram stadium, Chennai.

Pooja Vastrakar’s exceptional display of fast bowling, taking 4-13, helped India to restrict South Africa to a moderate total of 84. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav also contributed with 3 wickets and kept the run rate in check. On the other hand, the South Africans never looked settled, except for Tazmin Britts. Fresh from two back-to-back fifties in the series, she looked to take on the Indian bowlers but soon after hitting consecutive boundaries, she lost her wicket to Deepti Sharma.

Coming into the chase, Smriti Mandhana continued her good form, remaining not out with 54*, and Shafali Verma gave her good support. India chased down the total within 11 overs, with all wickets in hand.

In the post-match presentation, India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We spoke about the things we need to improve, and I’m proud of the way we played today. Going forward, we might have situations similar to this where we have to go hard and express ourselves. We were positive today and played as a team. Whoever got the opportunity did really well. Self-belief was there, and now with the Asia cup around the corner, we want to go there and do really well.”

On the other hand, the South Africans need to improve their batting. South Africa’s skipper Laura Wolvaardt remarked, “Not the way we want to end the series, disappointing loss. Overall, a lot of learnings. The first two games we had a lot of positives. We should have taken a little bit more time upfront today.”
