There was a Presidential debate between Harris and Trump. Now it’s the turn of the Vice Presidential debate between Ohio Sen JD Vance and Minnesota Gov Tim Walz. As expected, the debate covered several issues like foreign policy, reproductive rights, housing and so on.
About immigration both candidates discussed it. While Vance focused on stricter controls condemning the “open border” strategy of Kamala Harris, Walz advocated to stop dehumanizing and villainizing the immigrants and blaming them for problems like scarcity of houses and so on. Abortion was one of the topics of debate. Walz and Vance differed in their stances about abortion, where Vance talks about how as a Republican, he wants to be as pro – family as possible, and wants to make it easier for women to afford being a mother. Whereas Walz talks about the choice of being a mother is up to the woman, and the medical steps are to be decided by the doctors, he gives examples of cases to support his argument. About gun violence, Walz emphasized the need for stricter gun control measures, where he compares America’s gun violence statistics with Finland, despite both countries having legal gun ownership. There were notable exchanges, like Walz’s remarks on gun violence, about how his son witnessed a community shooting, which provoked an apology out of Vance, for he felt sorry about how Waz’s 17-year-old had to witness the same.
About economic policies JD Vance advocated for tax cuts and bringing back American manufacturing to stimulate economic growth, while Tim Walz focused on increasing government investment in infrastructure and education to create jobs. Walz supported raising the minimum wage and implementing progressive tax policies to resolve income inequality. The need for policies that support small businesses and reduce government intervention were emphasized by Vance.
