Cleveland Guardians Dominate with 7-0 Win Over San Diego Padres, But It Wasn’t As Easy As It Looks

Baseball Analysis, Cleveland Guardians, MLB Games, San Diego Padres, Sports Highlights

The Cleveland Guardians have managed to sneak through a victory with a 7-0 score in the opening match against the San Diego Padres. The scoreline doesn’t reflect how close the match was. The Guardian players looked very rusty, and the All-Star game provided a much-needed break for the players. Although the Guardians have the best record in the American League, they were not up to their usual standards. The Guardians are playing San Diego in a three-match weekend series. The games had already been announced, and Friday and Saturday are sold out.

The match was tight in the first half, but the scoreline opened in the second half with a shootout win over the Padres on Friday night. José Ramírez scored an excellent two-run single, David Fry added a run, and Brayan Rocchio’s two runs with a single brought the Guardians almost home. Then Tyler Freeman put the final nail in the coffin with a run through an excellent fly. Emmanuel Clase, who was warming up, didn’t come onto the field. Tanner Bibee played an outstanding role in this victory for the Cleveland Guardians. He stopped the Padres from scoring and stayed on the pitch for 5.2 innings.

“I think we’ve all known he’s a bona fide ace, and I think the league’s started to see it. They’re circling his name, he’s still putting up zeros every outing. It’s so much fun. We have our meetings that start every series, and we talk about the starters and what they’re doing good and how do we keep them going. Lately it’s just like, let’s talk about Bibee. Yeah, he’s been really, really good. Keep him going. Next guy,” said an elated David Fry of the Guardians.

Tanner Bibee had a great season in 2023 and finished as a runner-up in the American League Rookie of the Year race. Before his success, he was also a mere prospect for the future. But in 2021, after the Cleveland Guardians got him into the team, he proved his worth. His rise has been faster than other pitchers, but he too had to make adjustments to his game to improve. “When I got drafted, they wanted me to separate my two breaking balls, they wanted me to get more ride on my fastball, they wanted me to throw harder because, I mean, everybody throws faster nowadays,” said Bibee.
