In what now appears to be a mother’s knowing hint, Donna Kelce made comments about her son Travis that take on new meaning following his engagement to pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Just two days before the couple announced their engagement on August 26, Travis’s mother spoke with People magazine at a screening of ESPN’s “The Kingdom” documentary. When asked what was making her son so happy lately, the 72-year-old gave a response that seems revealing in hindsight.
“I think his mind is settled,” Donna told the publication. “That’s about all I can tell you.”
Her carefully worded answer continued with observations about her son’s state of mind. “I think he feels calm and he feels like he’s on a mission and he knows exactly what he wants,” she added.
The engagement, which the couple announced with photos captioned “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” came after Travis proposed at his Missouri home approximately two weeks earlier, according to Travis’s father Ed Kelce.
In an interview with News 5 Cleveland, Ed revealed that Travis proposed in his garden after inviting Taylor out for a glass of wine before dinner. “They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed said.

The newly engaged couple immediately shared their news via FaceTime calls to both sets of parents. Ed Kelce was attending a Philadelphia Eagles public practice when he received the call from the happy couple.
Ed was also present at the same screening event as Donna and was more direct when asked about his son’s happiness. When questioned about what was making Travis so joyful, Ed simply replied, “Taylor. There’s no question about it.”
The ring Travis selected for the proposal features an Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond in yellow gold, custom designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
The couple’s romance began in July 2023 when Kelce tried unsuccessfully to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it at her Kansas City Eras Tour concert. Swift later described this move as “metal as hell” during her Time Person of the Year interview in December 2023.
Their relationship became public when Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023, sitting alongside Donna Kelce. The couple’s joint appearances at games and concerts since then have captivated fans and media alike.
Both Kelce parents have consistently expressed their joy about the relationship. Speaking of the couple, Ed told People, “They’re just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight that they really haven’t sought but kind of followed with their success in their respective fields.”
With the engagement now official, fans are left wondering what other subtle hints might have been dropped along the way to this milestone in one of entertainment’s most-watched relationships.
