The first day of the Wheelchair Basketball event at the Paralympics started with a bang as the event had a tight finish. During the event, approximately 20,000 fans witnessed the athletes from all over the world at the Bercy Arena. It was a jam-packed stadium. The competition in each match was immense, with each team leaving no stone unturned and performing exceedingly well.
Coming into the matches, the Great Britain team started their campaign with a comprehensive victory over Germany. Great Britain won the match with a score of 76-55. The British were in front from the initial stage of the match and outscored Germany in the first quarter with an 18-8 score. Germany tried to stage a comeback in the second quarter, but the British were too strong for the Germans. Gregg Warburton was the leading scorer from the Great Britain team, having bagged 24 points.

On the other hand, the Great Britain Women’s Basketball team also performed brilliantly, just like the men’s team. The British women’s team secured a dominant victory over Spain with a 69-34 score. Jade Atkin, playing her debut Paralympics, played a key role in Great Britain’s victory. She scored 19 points, and her shooting accuracy was 73%, which is an incredible record.
Now came the all-important match that everyone was waiting for as the USA Men’s Basketball Paralympics team squared off against Spain. It was yet another thrilling match as neither of the teams was willing to buckle down. But in the end, the USA pulled off a hard-fought victory with a scoreline of 66-56. The scoreline shows how close and intense the match was. There was hardly a difference between both teams in the first quarter, but the USA dominated the match from the third quarter. Steve Serio led from the front, scoring a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists. Jake Williams of the USA also played exceptionally as he was the highest scorer with 22 points.
