Kamala Harris Secures Historic Nomination as DNC Unites in Chicago—Why 74 Days Could Make or Break Her Campaign

At the Democratic Convention in Chicago, Kamala Harris was nominated to be the Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidency. Now, Harris readies herself for the biggest moment of her political life. Oprah Winfrey was a part of the DNC program on Wednesday night. The DNC sanctioned a panel about Palestine and Arab issues. The group called it a small win but continued to push for a more prominent stage.

The combination of new enthusiasm for Harris’ campaign, which Democrats have been celebrating all week, and frustration among activist groups over President Joe Biden’s refusal to stop arms shipments to Israel has created an occasionally disorienting split-screen in Chicago. The protesters have marched outside the convention every day. Though little has changed on the ground in Gaza in recent months, some leading progressive groups, anti-war organizers, and Palestinian American activists initially expressed openness to Harris, who has spoken in favor of ending the conflict in Gaza.

Kamala Harris has quickly erased several of the advantages Donald Trump enjoyed over Joe Biden when it comes to the key personal attributes voters prize in a president. Harris’ energy and strong, confident speaking style at her boisterous rallies over just the past three weeks have stirred optimism among Democrats that she can reset the debate over strength and neutralize, or at least reduce, Trump’s traditional edge on that measure. With hardly 74 days left for the campaign, both Democrats and Republicans are vying to create a favorable atmosphere for their candidate.

According to tradition, no president can have more than two terms. So every president tries to get a second term. Actually, a four-year term for the U.S. presidency is too short. If one is elected, they get to know the workings of the highest office in the first year. One gets to implement their agenda for only two years because the last year is spent getting the party nomination if one wants to have another term. Therefore, it will be a historic presidency for Kamala Harris, according to Joe Biden. So, it’s up to Harris to prove her tact and skill to get elected for the most powerful job in the world!
