Tom Holland was rushed to hospital after hitting his head during a stunt on the set of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” causing filming to temporarily shut down. The 29-year-old actor suffered what’s being described as a mild concussion in the incident at Leavesden Studios in Watford on September 19.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed they responded to the emergency, stating: “We were called at 10:30am on Friday to attend to a patient who had sustained an injury at Leavesden Studios in Watford. An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the patient was transported to hospital for further care.”
Production on the £150 million film was immediately suspended following the accident. While Holland is expected to recover soon, the exact timeline for his return to the set remains unclear.
Tom’s father, comedian Dominic Holland, confirmed at a charity dinner in Mayfair that his son would be away from filming “for a while.” Despite his injury, Tom briefly appeared at the same charity event alongside his fiancée and co-star Zendaya, though reports indicate he left early after feeling unwell.

The incident has created some confusion in media reports. While some outlets initially suggested the accident happened in Glasgow, where parts of the film had been shooting on location, the injury actually occurred at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire.
There are also conflicting reports about whether a female stunt performer was injured in the same incident. Some sources claim a woman, believed to be a stunt double, was also taken to hospital by ambulance, while other reports state no one else was affected. This discrepancy remains unconfirmed by official sources.
The accident might trigger an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK government agency responsible for workplace safety. Such reviews typically examine risk assessment procedures, incident reporting, and set safety measures.
A meeting was scheduled for Monday to adjust filming plans, though sources close to the production indicate Holland is expected to return “in a few days” and that his break is “out of precaution.”
Before filming began in Scotland last month, Holland had expressed enthusiasm about shooting on real locations rather than solely on soundstages. “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow,” Holland had said. “It’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air.”
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is Holland’s fourth standalone Spider-Man movie and is currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (known for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) with Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige returning as producers. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas also joining the cast.
The previous Spider-Man film starring Holland, 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” was a massive box office success, grossing more than $1.91 billion worldwide despite being filmed entirely on soundstages during the Covid pandemic.
