The Nobel Peace Prize recipient is announced in Oslo at 11am on Friday (local time). The formal award ceremony is held on December 10.
A five‑member Norwegian Nobel Committee elected by Norway’s parliament selects the laureate. Sitting MPs cannot serve. The committee may consult permanent advisers and external experts.
No formal criteria beyond Alfred Nobel’s will: work for fraternity between nations, abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the holding and promotion of peace congresses. Since WWII, typical areas include arms control, peace negotiations, democracy & human rights, and building a more peaceful world.

There are 339 candidates (244 individuals; 95 organisations). The full list is sealed for 50 years, but nominators may reveal their own nominations. Eligible nominators include members of national governments, university professors, and previous laureates. Self‑nomination is not allowed.
