The blockbuster hit “A Minecraft Movie” will begin streaming on Max starting Friday, June 20, 2025. HBO will also show the film on Saturday, June 21, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The movie has been a huge success since its theatrical release on April 4, 2025. It has earned over $951 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the year. The movie also holds the title of second-highest-grossing video game movie of all time, trailing only behind “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
“A Minecraft Movie” features a star-studded cast including Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Jack Black as Steve, Emma Myers as Natalie, Sebastian Hansen as Henry, and Danielle Brooks as Dawn. Jennifer Coolidge also appears as VP Marlene. The film was directed by Jared Hess, known for his work on “Napoleon Dynamite.”
The story follows four misfits who are pulled through a portal into the cubic world of Minecraft. To return home, they team up with an expert crafter named Steve and must protect the world from threats like Piglins and Zombies.
