Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says the president wants FEMA “remade” instead of completely eliminated after the deadly Texas floods that killed at least 129 people with 166 still missing.
Noem now requires her personal approval for all FEMA spending over $100,000, which reportedly delayed rescue teams by over 72 hours during the recent disaster that became the deadliest freshwater flooding in Texas in over 100 years.
This marks a shift from Trump’s earlier promises to “get rid” of FEMA entirely, as the administration faced heavy criticism for the slow federal response to the emergency. The tragedy has forced Trump to quietly back away from dismantling the disaster agency while maintaining that states should take more responsibility for emergency response.

Elon Musk is demanding Trump keep his promise to release the Jeffrey Epstein files after the FBI released a report last week saying no client list exists and Epstein wasn’t blackmailing anyone. Trump’s own Justice Department concluded Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and found no evidence of the conspiracy theories that many Trump supporters have been pushing for years.
Musk posted on social media telling Trump to “just release the files as promised” after Trump mentioned Epstein multiple times while telling people to stop talking about him. This latest clash comes as Trump’s administration faces heavy criticism from his own supporters who feel betrayed after Attorney General Pam Bondi promised big revelations that never came.

Iran’s foreign minister said nuclear talks can resume provided assurance of no more attacks.
Speaking to diplomats on Saturday Abbas Araqchi said that Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “has not stopped, but will take new form.” Iran had moved to formally end its cooperation with the agency after the 12-day war.
Iran will answer to IAEAs request for cooperation under Iranian laws.
Raising concerns for inspectors the foreign minister said, “the risk of proliferation of radioactive ingredients and an explosion of ammunition that remains from the war in the attacked nuclear sites is serious.”

Trump’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stopped sending weapons to Ukraine last week without telling the White House first, but Trump quickly reversed the decision and weapons are flowing again. The pause affected important missiles like Patriots and artillery shells that Ukraine desperately needs to defend against Russian attacks, catching everyone by surprise including Congress and America’s allies.
Trump admitted he didn’t know who ordered the halt and seemed frustrated with Putin, saying “he’s not treating human beings right” as Russia launched its biggest drone attack of the war. America has now resumed shipping 155mm artillery rounds and guided rockets to Ukraine, continuing the $67 billion in military help since Russia invaded in 2022.

Trump met with five African leaders at the White House on Wednesday and told them America is done giving out aid money. Instead, he wants to do business deals to get access to their oil, gold, and other valuable resources like lithium and manganese.
The leaders from Liberia, Senegal, Gabon, Mauritania, and Guinea-Bissau came seeking trade partnerships after Trump completely shut down USAID on July 1st, which used to send billions in help to poor countries. This move hurts places like Liberia the most, where American aid money made up almost 3% of their entire country’s income, but now Trump says those days are over and wants profit-making deals instead.
