The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night saw new TV shows take home the top prizes. Apple TV+’s “The Studio” won best comedy, HBO Max’s “The Pitt” won best drama, and Netflix’s “Adolescence” dominated the limited series category.
“The Studio” was the night’s biggest winner. It tied the record for most comedy nominations with 23. The show won best comedy series, writing, and directing. Seth Rogen won his first Emmy for lead actor.
“The Pitt” took the best drama award. Noah Wyle won his first Emmy for lead actor in the show. Katherine LaNasa also won her first Emmy for supporting actress in “The Pitt.”
Netflix’s “Adolescence” made history in limited series. It won eight of its 13 nominations. The British show took best limited series, with Stephen Graham winning for lead actor and writing. The biggest moment came when 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor to win an Emmy.
“I was nothing about three years ago,” Cooper said. “I’m here now.”
Host Nate Bargatze started the night with a $100,000 pledge to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He said money would be taken away when winners talked too long. By the end, the donation grew to $350,000, with CBS giving $100,000 and Bargatze adding $250,000.
One touching moment was when “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” won best talk series. This win came months after CBS said the show would end in 2026. Colbert got several standing ovations.
