Billionaire Elon Musk Declares Full Support for Trump Post-Attack in Pennsylvania Rally—How This Shakes Up the 2024 Race

Elon Musk stated that he “fully supports” Donald Trump and described the Republican presidential candidate as “resilient” and a “living martyr” following Saturday’s attack on the former head of state during a campaign event in Pennsylvania. “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Tesla CEO posted on his social network X. Musk also posted a photograph of Trump at the event, followed by: “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.” “But then the martyr lived,” he wrote in a subsequent post, citing a purported debate between conservative venture capitalist Peter Thiel and LinkedIn co-founder and Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman.

Representatives from Musk’s social media company X did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk, who has intensified criticism against President Joe Biden, has made donations to a political group working for Trump, Bloomberg reported Friday, basing its information on sources. Although the amount of the donations was not disclosed, Bloomberg estimated them to be “substantial.” In March, Trump, expected to be formally nominated next week as the Republican Party candidate for the November 5 elections, met with Musk and other billionaire donors.

In response to reports about the meeting, Musk, born in South Africa, posted on X: “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.” In May, he also denied press reports that he had discussions about a possible advisory role in a potential Trump presidency. Musk had previously shown closeness with Trump, disdain for what he calls ‘woke’ (progressive) ideology, and increasingly clear criticisms of the Democratic Party, but had not yet clearly sided with Trump’s candidacy. The businessman’s influence is expected to benefit Trump, as Musk has one of the largest audiences on X with 189.5 million followers, meaning his posts can instantly reach a wide audience.

On Sunday, hours after the attack, the former president and Republican candidate assured on the social network Truth Social that he is not “afraid” and will remain strong and “defiant” after the assassination attempt he survived. “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” said the former president. The president, as he did on Saturday, referred to the family of the deceased victim as well as to the injured individuals, whom he wished a speedy recovery.

“At this moment, it is more important than ever that we stay united and show our true character as Americans, staying strong and determined and not allowing evil to prevail,” he added. Trump indicated that he hopes to be part of the Republican National Convention to be held in Wisconsin, which begins tomorrow and on Thursday plans to officially nominate him as the party’s candidate in the November elections. Technology magnate Elon Musk’s emdorsement on Saturday will boost Donald Trump’s campaign further.
