Montclair, NJ – The highly anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic, “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” has started filming at the Montclair Public Library’s Bellevue Avenue Branch this week. The film explores the making of Springsteen’s groundbreaking 1982 album “Nebraska,” stars Jeremy Allen White of “The Bear” fame as the legendary musician.
First Day of Filming Draws Attention. On October 28, 2024, the first day of production, White was spotted outside the library wearing a khaki jacket, jeans, and boots – a look reminiscent of Springsteen’s classic style.
All-Star Cast Brings Springsteen’s Story to Life Alongside White, the film features an impressive ensemble cast:
- Jeremy Strong (“Succession,” “The Apprentice”) as Springsteen’s longtime manager Jon Landau
- Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird,” “Richard Jewell”) as guitar tech Mike Batlan
- Odessa Young (“Mothering Sunday,” “The Staircase”) as Faye, a love interest
- Stephen Graham (“Young Woman and the Sea,” “Pirates of the Caribbean”) as Springsteen’s father
- Johnny Cannizzaro (“Quantum Leap,” “Jersey Boys”), a Holmdel native, as Steven Van Zandt
“Nebraska” Marks a Turning Point in Springsteen’s Career. Released in 1982, “Nebraska” was a departure from Springsteen’s previous work, showcasing a raw, acoustic sound and introspective narratives that explored themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans. The album, recorded on a 4-track recorder in a Colts Neck house, was originally intended to be re-recorded with the E Street Band but was ultimately released as-is. It has since become a classic and is credited with sparking the lo-fi indie rock movement.
