HBO’s highly anticipated prequel series “Dune: Prophecy” is set to premiere on November 17, 2024, as revealed during the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con 2024. The series, which takes place 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s critically acclaimed “Dune” movies, will explore the origins of the enigmatic Bene Gesserit sect through the story of two Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, respectively.

Showrunner Alison Schapker, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Villeneuve, teased that the series will delve into the aftermath of the wars against artificial intelligence, a time when “We’re in the shadow of the wars humans have fought against thinking machines” This sets the stage for humans to “strive to fill the voids of what used to be performed by technology” and “push the boundaries of what it means to be human.”

The official trailer, which debuted during the NYCC panel, hints at the central themes of power, truth, and the influence of charismatic leaders. Schapker elaborated on this, stating, “The sisterhood certainly has a prominent public place, and they have these jobs as truth-sayers. They’re in the halls of power, teaching girls truth-sayers. They’re in the halls of power, teaching girls and insinuating themselves into noble families. But they’re also pulling strings behind the scenes.”
