Global Leaders’ Legal Troubles: Corruption Scandals Shake Politics

Global Politics, government, Legal Troubles, Trump

With a felon becoming the 47th President of USA, international politics has become a haven for criminals. Donald Trump is now threatening to take over the Panama Canal. His DOGE Secretary and billionaire Elon Musk wants to change the UK government. In South Korea, the President is behind bars.

In Delhi, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal used to sign files from jail when he was still a chief minister. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is under a cloud of suspicion for his wife’s dealings in the MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) land case. Dhananjay Munde, a Maharashtra Minister, is not ready to resign, although one of his close aides Valmik Karad is in jail for the murder of a Sarpanch belonging to the Maratha community.

Crime and politics go hand in hand, as money is required to get elected even for a village Panchayat election. Richard Nixon, US President, had to resign after he was impeached in the Watergate scandal involving corruption. Nearer home, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed had to flee to India as the crowds in that country invaded her official residence for alleged corruption.
