Our first close-up of Anthony Mackie in “Captain America: Brave New World” arrived at Brazil’s D23 fan event. Marvel Studios dropped a 3-minute-40-second trailer that packs enough punch to rival a super soldier serum. As someone who’s spent countless hours in dark screening rooms watching heroes rise and fall, I can tell you – this one hits differently.

“To have the opportunity to be Captain America, to be a part of the MCU, it’s a dream come true. My first thing when I met with my agent when I started in 2001, I said I want to be a superhero and I want to be in a western.” Mackie expressed for the Brazil D23 crowd, his enthusiasm radiating through the packed convention hall. Sam Wilson isn’t Steve Rogers, and that’s the whole point. He brings his truth to this role.

The plot reads like a classic 70s political thriller with a modern MCU twist. Fresh from his meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam Wilson gets caught in what Marvel Studios describes as “an international incident.” But let’s cut to the real scene-stealer here – Harrison Ford making his MCU entrance as President Ross.

The trailer gives us our first glimpse of this transformation, and cinematically speaking, it’s pure visual storytelling gold.

The supporting cast brings serious dramatic weight. Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley, whose history as a test subject for super-soldier experiments adds layers of moral complexity to the story. Breaking Bad fans will spot Giancarlo Esposito slipping into the role of Seth Voelker/Sidewinder – and yes, he brings that same electric screen presence that made us unable to look away from Gus Fring.

Danny Ramirez steps up as the new Falcon, while Shira Haas joins as Sabra, bringing Israeli superhero representation to the MCU. Xosha Roquemore’s Joelle adds another fresh face to the ensemble.

Director Julius Onah, working alongside producers Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, crafts sequences that blend practical effects with CGI set pieces. The film’s cinematography pays homage to classic spy thrillers while maintaining that distinct Marvel sheen. Louis D’Esposito and Charles Neuwirth’s executive production touches are evident in every frame.
