With the announcement of the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, there is a festival of polls. On the global scale, the 5 November Election of the US president is awaited with bated breath!

Prof Allan Lichtman, a historian from American University, New York, again asserted last week the idea that Kamala Harris is going to become the first woman president of the USA. Here in Maharashtra, more than 90 million voters will decide the fate of MAha Yuit (the big alliance ) headed by Eknath Shinde and seconded by Devendra Phadanvis and Ajit Pawar.

This time apart from the usual problem of unemployment and Maratha – OBC reservation issue, there is a Jarange factor. Manoj Jarange, a Maratha activist has vowed to defeat BJP and has appealed for 100% Maratha voting. This factor may cause concern for the present government.

On the other hand, the “October Surprise” may upset either Harris or Trump in the US presidential elections. But the Nestrodamus of US polls, Prof Lichtman, has dismissed the so-called October surprise. He feels that pollsters created it to freighter the main presidential candidates.

November is going to be an important month both for India as well as the USA. If the BJP-led alliance wins in Maharashtra, PM Modi’s hands will be strengthened. But if it is defeated, Modi’s strength will be reduced.

Similarly, the US presidential polls will have global implications. If Trump wins, environmental issues will be given less importance in world forums. But if Harris wins, the liberal voice of weaker sections of society will get a boost. So, there is a lot at stake in these two elections.

Any outcome of the November 5 US presidential elections will affect the Russo-Ukrainian and Middle-East conflict. Harris represents women, half of humanity as well as black and backward sections of society. Therefore her win will be a big boost for environmentalists and the advocates of advancement of neglected parts of mankind.

In Maharashtra, a regime change will bring a new pattern of alliances similar to Kerala. In Jharkhand, the picture is not clear. The JMM, led by CM Soren, has got sympathy factor on his side as he was put behind bars for corruption. But the court gave him bail.

Anyway, the Election extravaganza has begun in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and the USA. Let us hope the new governments will help realize some of their dreams. After all, we live in the internal hope of making our dreams true!
