Stefon Diggs scores as Commanders fall 23-17 to 49ers

Football, NFL, Sports News

Stefon Diggs caught six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown in Washington‘s 23-17 loss at San Francisco on Monday night, October 19. His fourth touchdown of the season came on a one-yard pass from Jayden Daniels in the third quarter.

The Commanders’ official statistics show Diggs played 41 of their 67 offensive snaps, listed by the team as 61 percent. The game also moved him past 11,700 career receiving yards. Those figures describe his production and playing time, not a count of pass routes.

For fans assessing Washington’s receiving group, the touchdown and the workload are separate pieces of information. Diggs scored, but he did not play every offensive snap. The box score alone cannot establish what his role will be after the bye, particularly with another receiver’s injury still being assessed.

Terry McLaurin left the game with a knee injury. In its October 20 postgame report, Washington said coach Dan Quinn had no update after the game and planned further scans. That report did not establish a diagnosis or a return date.

Daniels completed 29 of 40 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Washington trailed 20-3 at halftime, then fell behind 23-3 in the third quarter before scoring twice to cut the deficit.

Diggs finished the first touchdown drive with his short reception. Washington’s official account describes an 11-play possession in which Daniels completed five of six passes. The next touchdown drive ended with a nine-yard reception by running back Rachaad White.

Several other receivers contributed against the 49ers. Tight end Chig Okonkwo caught seven passes for 69 yards, while Treylon Burks had four receptions for 66 yards. White added four catches for 30 yards and the touchdown.

The snap totals also show the different workloads within that group. Okonkwo played 51 offensive snaps, Burks played 37, and McLaurin played seven. These are playing-time figures, not evidence that any one receiver is guaranteed additional targets.

Washington enters its bye after the six-point defeat. Diggs finished with a touchdown and six receptions, while the team headed into the break awaiting more information about McLaurin’s knee.
