Nintendo has revealed that the sequel to the blockbuster “Super Mario Bros. Movie” will be titled “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” The film is set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026, in the United States and April 24, 2026, in Japan.
The announcement came during Nintendo’s September 12 Direct presentation, just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the original “Super Mario Bros.” game release. The movie will serve as what Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto called the “main event” of Mario’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The entire principal voice cast from the first film will return, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. The creative team remains intact with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directing, Matthew Fogel writing the screenplay, and Brian Tyler composing the score.
The first “Super Mario Bros. Movie,” released in April 2023, was a massive commercial success, earning $1.36 billion worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever and the fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time, behind only “Ne Zha 2,” “Inside Out 2,” “The Lion King,” and “Frozen 2.”
Alongside the movie announcement, Nintendo revealed that “Super Mario Galaxy” and “Super Mario Galaxy 2” will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 2, 2025. The games will be available as a combined physical release priced at $69.99, with each title also offered separately in digital format for approximately $39.99 each.
