Approximately more than 4,400 athletes participated at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Athletes are being awarded the first medals as the games started on 28th August and will continue until 8th September. The very first medal of the games went to the Netherlands. Para cyclist Caroline Groot scripted a world record in the 500 m time trial C4-5. Following the Netherlands’ medal, Italy’s Francesco Bocciardo, a Para swimmer, also created a Paralympic record by clinching a medal in the men’s 200 m freestyle S5 in his fourth games.
Host France didn’t disappoint their fans as Para swimmer Ugo Didier secured the gold medal in the men’s 400m freestyle S9. On the other hand, the champion team USA, which always ranks high in medal counts at both the Olympics and Paralympics, got their first medal in the form of silver. Para swimmer Elizabeth Marks earned the medal in the women’s 50 m freestyle S6. Elizabeth also collected another silver medal in the 50 m butterfly S6 and the 200 m individual medley SM6.

At the games overall, in 549 events across 22 sports, medals will be awarded. The medals will also be awarded at the Aquatics center in LA Défense. The stadium saw some memorable medal performances in the recently concluded Paris Olympics, including those of US star Katie Ledecky and France’s Léon Marchand. US long jumper Tara Woodhall Davis earned a gold at this venue. Woodhall got support from her husband, Hunter Woodhall, who cheered for her throughout.
