The US President-elect Donald Trump’s second inning starts Jan 20, 2025. He is in the process of forming his cabinet. His first appointment was for DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency). The famous Industrialist Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were given the charge of DOGE. The rule by dyarchy (rule by two people or agencies) will be watched with interest.
It’s difficult to control bureaucracy. Modi in his second inning tried to get experienced persons to be appointed as joint secretaries, but the experiment failed in India. So it will be interesting to watch the progress of DOGE. Trump has appointed Tulsi Gabbard as Intelligence chief. Gabbard’s role too will be watched with renewed interest as she is a follower of ISKCON.
Trump is anti-immigration. His ‘border czar’ Tom Homan has already warned Democratic-governed states that have said they will not cooperate with the deportation program to “get the hell out of the way.” Thus confrontation and polarization has already begun even before the start of Trump’s second inning. Again his foreign policy is discriminatory as he has vowed to stop the Russo-Ukraine conflict, but he is vague about the Israel-Hamas war.

The experts are quite content as Trump cannot do much harm as this is his last term. According to the American Constitution, a person can become the President only twice. Actually, the four-year term is not enough to initiate any worthwhile strategic change. Trump has confirmed he will declare an emergency and use the military for deportation of illegal immigrants with criminal records. The border czar says legal immigrants are safe.
Next four years of Trump’s second inning will be watched by the world with interest.
