The first trailer for “Wicked: For Good” debuted on June 4, giving fans a glimpse into the second part of the musical adaptation starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. This eagerly awaited sequel continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda’s complicated friendship in the land of Oz.
The trailer picks up where the first film left off, with Elphaba now branded as the “Wicked Witch of the West” after fleeing Oz during the dramatic “Defying Gravity” finale. “This is between the Wizard and I,” Erivo’s character declares in one scene, while Grande’s Glinda warns, “Elphaba, they’re coming for you.”
Director Jon M. Chu has crafted a noticeably darker tone for this second installment, reflecting the serious consequences of choices made in the first film. “What’s nice about movie two is it’s so different from movie one,” Chu explained. “It’s the new chapter. In movie two, we get to see the consequences of those choices.”
The trailer offers fans their first glimpse of Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” though her face isn’t shown. Other iconic elements appear including the yellow brick road, flying monkeys, and hints of a wedding scene. The footage also features snippets of beloved songs like “No Good Deed” and “For Good,” along with teases of two brand new songs written specifically for this film by composer Stephen Schwartz.
